Advertising for t.v

Task 1: Write an analysis for 2 or 3 advertisements. Use the questions below to help you.

The Honda advert uses the rich and luxerious lifestyle lines of appeal aswell as asparational dreams an fantasy as the vehicals that are on the advert are the types that people would want.
The target audiace for this avert will be older males as men will want to buy the vehicals that are in the advert more than women but it will only be older males that will be able to afford them.

Budwiser advert.
The budwiser advert used comedy lines of appeal as the avert is about a group of mates who are ringing each other up and joking sayng "Whassup" as the advert will be aimed at mainly people who drink Budwiser but mainly at the younger males who will joke arround when having a beer just like the freinds on the advert.

Cheryl Cole advert

The lines of appeal in this avert are self importance , pride beautiful women and luxurious lifestyle The advert uses these lines of appeal to show people what therelife and hair could be like. Lots of shots including extreme close ups of the hair so people can see what the shampoo does to peoles hair and it keeps showing the hair because it is the man purpose of the advert and also people will keep seeing it and ight want there hair to look like that and will need to buy the shampoo.

Task 2.

Hovis advert.

The hovis advert uses different shot of the boy running with the loaf of bread through different times as it shows how long the hovis brand has been in buisness for as this shows that people can trust the brand as it has been arround for a long time. It also shows that generations of familys have used the hovis brand as the peple that the boy is running past are waving at his like to say that they know him.

Task 3.

Different adverts are aimed for different people as an advert will appeal to one person but not to another for example an advert for women's shoes will be aimed a

t women as men will not be interested by the product as they will probably not buy them. target audiences are important so you can get as much of the target audience to see your

advert to get the most people from the target audience

to see adverts adverts can be put on specific channels where most of the audience will be people from the target audience and also the advert can be put on at certain times so most of the target audience will see the advert for example an advert for a ch

ildren's toy will have to be aired

during the day when children will be watching T.V and not at 10 pm as there wont be many children watching T.V then.

Sound is used in many different ways in adverts for television from musi

c in the background Voice overs, sound effects and music beds they are important as they need to fit in with the advert if there was a advert for a heavy metal band they would want some of the bands music to be played so it fits with the advert. Voice overs are important fo

r an advert because you nee the right voice over for what you are advertising if you were to a

dvertise a product from a certain region of the country like

a yorkshire pudding you would want a yorkshire accent for a voice over. Sound effects are another thing that is important in an adverts because this helps with the advert if there was a comedy advert sound effects would be important for if they made a joke ther

e would be laughing. Silence isn't relay used in adverts as the company is paying for the time so they wont want to wast it by having silence in the advert.

Task 4. Who are the ASA.

The ASA are the advertising standards authority their main job is to deal with complains about adverts and to take action if they feel an advert should be bann

ed. The ASA deals with complaints on all types of advertising includin

g T.V Newspaper and Radio the ASA reviews adverts weather they have broken the BCAP codes the BCAP codes are a list of rules that cannot be broken when advertising some of them are. If advertising to children about price you cannot say "only" or "Just" as this will make the child

ren think it is relay cheap and want it. Also adverts cannot racially discriminate people as a

dvertisements must not include any material which might reasonably be construed by ethnic minorities to be hurtful or tasteless.

Task 9: Create a questionnaire consisting of 6-10 questions. Remember the resu

lts that you are looking for should help you when you come to plan your TV advert

.Questionnaire

1. What advert jingle do you find most memorable?

(Go compare Dell (lollypop) Mcdonalds cadburys (Monkey playing drums)

2. What is your favorite advert of all time?

Nike (ole) Iron Bru (snowman) Coca-Cola (Christmas)

Cadburys (Monkey) John smiths (Peter Kay)

3. Do you think adverts are better with a narrative?

4. Do you like adverts with celebrities endorsing products in them?

5. What is your favorite advert genre?

( Action comedy horror romance)

6.Do you feel a tag line is important in an advert?

Task 9 continue: Enter the results from 2 or 3 questions into excel and create some graphs that will help highlight your most pertinent results….

What TV advert jingle do you find most memorable?

Dp you think adverts are better with a narrative?

Task 10: You must interview 3 or more friends and then, document your findings…..

What do you like to see the most in adverts?

I like to see adverts that are funny because I don’t watch adverts to get entertained like TV so it makes them more enjoyable.

I like watching adverts that have a story line as it makes them more interesting and better.

When watching and advert I like to look at what is being advertised if it’s not something I like I’m not interested about the advert.

If a celebrity is endorsing a product does it make you want to buy it more?

No not really most of the time if I want something I buy it not just because

a celebrity is endorsing it.

It depends on what the product is I wouldn’t rush out and bu

y something I don’t need just because a celebrity is holding it on adverts but if it was something I would find useful I might buy it.

No I don’t see the point in endorsing as I wont buy something I don’t want or need because some celebrity is endorsing it.

Are there any adverts that you will remember forever and why?

I will always remember an old Nike advert where lots of famous football players were playing on the streets I really liked this adverts as it had all my favorite pl

ayers in and I liked all the skills and tricks they were doing.

I think I will remember the Cadburys eyebrow adverts because I really like it when it was on TV because I thought it was really funny but also thought the advert was very good and very professional.

I will always remember the cheetos adverts from a few years ago because I used to love cheetos and enjoyed watching the advert as I found them funny.

Task 11: Set up a focus group and document your results. Use you class as the focus group, explain the demographic of the group and pick out some of the more relevant comments and explain how they will help inform your planning. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of running a focus group and how this can effect your results.

By taking part in a focus group it really helps us come up with ideas

and problems at the same time. This is a huge advantage to us, as it show's people views and opinions on advertising in general. The focus group consisted of Pudsey Grangefield 6th form students between the age of 16-18. There were also two Media teachers in the room. The disadvantages of this particular focus group was that it was a very narrow audience in the fact that we were all roughly the same age and all went to the same school. Another disadvantage would be that maybe some people didn't express there views because maybe they thought their mates would laugh or not agree with them but I don't think this was the case with our focus group.

The advantages of a foucs group is simply the range of ideas and opinions you

can discover from having everyone disscussing the same topic and all putting ideas

together. Also people can take on board other people's opinions and maybe add to it.

Task 12: Consider the advertising codes for TV and pick out one code that you think you must be conscious of when producing your advertisement. Explain why and explain how you will make sure that you do not contravene the code.

When creating an advert there are many different things

you must consider so that when people watch your advert they do not get offended i think a major concern to make sure you dont Harm or Offend thins is important as our advert is to adverts a subject so if we offend anybody they will not want to take the

subject.

Task 13: What type of program would your advert be placed in between?

If my advert were to be on TV I think it would be best played between programs on that children who are in year six would watch as my advert is advertising construction at Pudsey Grangefield School and you need to advertise to the children who are going to high school. My advert would be best played on channels that have these programs on and should be played between 3.30 and 5.00 as these are the times that the target audience will most likely be watching TV after school. So our advert would be good during a sho

w that most of this age group watches this would be hard as year nines will watch different shows than year elevens and also parents but also it would be good to show it during a show parents will watch as if they think it is a good subject they will tell their child about it.

We would have to advertis on local channels and on and around local news programs as there will be no point advertising it for people in the other side of the country because they are not going to be able to get to the school.

Task 14 : Produce a record of your initial ideas that covers….

Factors of persuasion and lines of appeal - Successful career prospects, friendly atmosphere to work in, aspirational subject and expert construction teachers

    Narrative -

    Music - Slow Calming music

Characters - Subject staff and students in the lesion.

    Style -

Task 15: Complete a treatment for your TV advert that covers the following in detail….

I propose to make an advert to advertise the subject of Construction and design in Pudsey grangefield school the lines of appeal that i will try to use are to make people get exited and feel positive abut the subject as it is a subject with a lot of options not just to take as a subject but as a career with several different courses to do at school but with qualifications there are lots of job options but also t is a fun and interesting subject with Pu

dsey grangefield having some of the best facilities around we need to use these lines of appeal as well with students and staff talking positively about the subject so people think the subject is interesting and fun.

The camera shots we use will be important as we want our advert to look professional and if we make our advert look good that may make people want to choose the subject more but also it is important as we need the right camera shots to show the the subjects as best we can with writing about stats about courses and results but

also about career options so if people see that there is a high numb
er of A to C results people will know the teachers are very good and also the equipment is very good and also if they see a job they will want to do in the future they may take the subject.

Task 16: Write a report with screen-shots, detailing the equipment and software you will be using and how you intend to use it.

For our advert the equipment that we will use will be a Panasonic DVX-100-B video camera Edirol R-09 voice recorder and a tripod. we will use the camera for most of the filming but may use the smaller Flip camera as the Panasonic has better so
und quality but we will be using the voice recorder to get p
eoples vies of the subjects and we will use the tripod so that the camera is still and is not moving from side to side as this will make it look less professional.

After we have got all the footage we need we will use a few different programs to edit the footage and make the advert we will use garageband to edit music for the audio and also remove parts of the audio that we do not need or want we can use this software to make some of the music as well.
i-Movie is where we will import our video into to cut it down and cut out all the parts we don't need. Then finally Final-cut express will be the software we
use to add effects and final touches to our video.

The people that will be involved in our advert will be camera man sound man mainly as well will both be doing all the work we will both do some filming and both do all the editing together so we both no what we want in our advert and what it will be like.

The location of where we will be filming is in the construction department we may film in a separate room but most will be done in the main work shop and we will only be filming in other rooms for the interview parts of the advert

Task 17: Create a storyboard for your production

Task 18: You must create a production schedule, this will help you set some targets and will also keep everybody who is in the production, informed of what is happening when.

Task 20: Complete version of your TV Advert.

    Task 21: Evaluation.

Our purpose was to create an advert for the design technology dept. at our school which i think we did.
We got three pieces of feedback for our advert The first pice was a positive response as they said it was fitting for the target audience which is for new student to the school thinking about tacking the subject and the video shows the facilities and work they have produced.
the second response was similar as they said it achieved the purpose and shows the positive sides of the subject which will make people want to take the subject.
The final piece of feed back said the music was good as it was calm and you don't need loud heavy music and it makes people want to cum to the school.
we gave out positive messages in our video as we didn't want to show negative as it would put people of tacking the subject.
Our video had a mixture of males and females but mostly males as more males take the subject.
Our video only had one ethnic group in it. As we only filmed people who were in the class. Our music bed was a soft track i think this helped as our advert was a slow pace and it was the right music for it. The locations of our advert were appropriate as we were advertising the construction dept. at our school which is where we was filming.
The language we used was only title screens and what was written was about construction in some way so i think it was appropriate.
I think our advert did look realistic as we showed the facilities so people would see what it was like and also what work they will be doing.
The sound levels in our video were fine as we only had a music bed which was constant throughout. No voices were cut off.
our camera work was fine as it was steady and we had a good range of shots. There wasn't too much variety in our advert but it was quite short so people wouldn't get bored.
We didn't meed to use an external mic.
Our editing was ok as we had we the right amount of effects and transitions so it still looked good.
the font we choose was quite good i think as it looks like handwriting and we are advertising a school.
For this genre i think the things that would be typical would be mainly showing what the school is like and what the facilities are like.To show people what they can expect to be doing at the school.
A professional would have advantages over us as they will have better equipment a bigger budget more time and more staff.
Our advert didn't have a narrative and was single strand.
I didn't learn many new skill when making the advert mainly on editing as i learnt a few new ways to edit.
I think i did well as i took an equal part in making the advert and i am happy with the result.
We didn't argue and were always prepared to listen to each others opinions.
if i was to make a similar product again in the future i would try to make the advert different and involve more teachers and students.

    Multi camera techniques

Task 1 and 2 program formats.
A multi camera format is when a t.v show is filmed with multiple cameras it is a easier way to film as it takes less time to film all the shots as you don't need to keep moving the camera around to do each shot. it is also cheaper as you don't need to film again if you get a shot wrong as you can use shots from the other cameras.
T.V shows that use multi camera formats are nearly all sport shows soaps like Eastenders and coronation street also shows like the Jeremy kyle show use multiple cameras as they often have shots of the crowd people on stage and often change from camera to camera this would be hard to do with one camera.

    Task 2.
    Kraft Werk

The video has a lot of Extreme long shots tracking shots and panning shots this is used to show how big the stage is and to show all the lighting effects as this is a big part of there shows and want people watching the video to see all the effects the camera shot change quite quickly because of the fact that the band are stood still using instrument the whole time these quick changes are needed as people watching thevideo might get board watching the same shot for a long period of time. also lots of shots of the crowd this
shows that they are very popular and people enjoy listening to them.

    Fashion show.

The fashion show video has lots of shots straight down t
he catwalk so that you can focus on the models and the cloths that they are wearing the shots change to many tilt shots and close ups of the models when they get further away from the camera as the models get to different stages of the catwalk so that you can see all angels of the cloths. there are several shots of the crowd so that you can see the designers and celebrities that are at the show this show how big the brand is and what type of people that wear the cloths and to signify that most of the people that wear the cloths live rich and luxurious lifestyles. The cat walt is mirrored and there are bright light over the catwalk and none over the crowd this makes people focus on what is happening
on the catwalk and the cloths that the models are wearing.

    Formula 1.

When filming formula 1 it is very important to have more t
han one camera many are needed as the cars are traveling that fast that you need many cameras so that you can keep up with the action. The camera shots in Formula 1 are mainly Tracking and Panning shots so they can show the action better as each camera is usually only filming the cars for several seconds at the most because of this the transition of shots is very quick so that it there is no long delay. Also there are a few birds eye view shots to show the positions of the cars and who is in the lead.

    Football.

Some of the shots at the start of the video are extreme close ups of some of the managers with the premier league trophy in the middle of the faces this shows what teams have been competing for the title over the previous year there is a shot of all the club badges to show who has been in the league in the last year. After there are lots of clips of the highlights of the season there are a mixture of shots including Close ups mid shots
long shots panning and tracking the mixture of these shots help show the action of the best games there are also a lot of shots of the fans to show weather they are happy or sad depending on how there team is doing.

The second video we will be playing will be the video we have made called "The irritant banana" the video is based on a character from a TV show called "Balls of steel" called the "Annoying devil" who goes around annoying people in many different ways the irritant banana will be doing the same but on a smaller scal
e the tricks will be played on oblivious people around the school dressed in a banana costume. the next video we will be playing will be a single camera drama from our media class this will be a video about the effects of drugs this will be played to add a serious note to our show but also to show the younger years what can happen if they take drugs.
